Terry Fox Run

Reminders:
- Wear an Orange Shirt on Wednesday September 30th.
- Thursday October 1st is Pajama Day!
- PM Kindergarten attends school on Friday October 2nd.

Today we started learning about Orange Shirt Day. We talked about how Phyllis Webstad had her orange shirt taken away when she went to a residential school, and how that made her feel sad and like she didn't matter. We talked about how Every Child Matters, which is why Orange Shirt Day is recognized.

We read the story, Spoken Word, by Melanie Florence. We discussed how the grandfather felt when his language was taken away when he went to residential school.

"He was in the blue zone because he was sad his words were taken away" - Hayley

We also discussed how the grandfather felt when his granddaughter found a book in her school library that was an "Introduction to Cree". He was so thrilled to be able to speak in Cree again!

"He was in the green zone because he got his words back" - Cali

You can read the story with your child again here if you are interested:

We also learned about Terry Fox today! It is the 40th Anniversary of the Terry Fox Run this year. We learned about what it means to never give up on your dreams.

Here is a kid friendly story you can listen to with your child:

We also went for a run outside during Gym class in honor of the Terry Fox Run. Each class ran TEN laps around the field. WOOHOO!

Have a wonderful week!
