Orange Shirt Day!

Reminders:
- Thursday October 1st is Pajama Day!
- PM Kindergarten attends school on Friday October 2nd.

We spent a lot of time over the last three days learning about residential schools. Yesterday, we read a story called "When I was Eight" by Christy Jordan Fenton and Margaret Pokiak-Fenton. Today, we read a story called "When We Were Alone" by David Robertson.

In both of these stories, we learned about:

  • Indigenous children being forced to wear uniforms instead of their own clothing
  • Indigenous children being forced to speak English instead of their own language
  • Indigenous children being separated from their families
  • Indigenous children having their hair cut short so they could no longer be proud of it
Feel free to listen to these stories with your child if you'd like to continue the conversation at home.

Students also created an artifact for our classroom wall to remind ourselves that Every Child Matters.

We also practiced sorting shapes into various categories!
Students identified these sorting rules: color, shape, size, and thickness.

Can they tell you which sorting rule each picture represents?
