Learning Update

    Reminders:

  • Return library books every Wednesday
  • PM Kindergarten attends Friday March 19
  • Do you have any materials we can use for building in the classroom?
Good afternoon,

Thank you so much to everyone for meeting with me last week to discuss your child's learning.

Over the last week or so, we have learned about lower-case: j, k, l, m, n, and p.

Here is the Graphemes video we have been using:

Can your child tell you the sound these letters make?
Can they tell you something that starts with each letter?

We have also started learning about the concepts of "One more" and "One less".

We played a game where our friends stood up and we had to figure out how many friends we had if we added one more, or took a friend away for one less. The students LOVED this! You could do this with many objects around the house.

For example:
If I have 5 brown beans, and I have one MORE, how many do I have? (Answer: 6)
If I have 6 Skittles and I ate one so I have one LESS, how many do I have? (Answer: 5)

Here is an example of how one student showed their work!

We also added a game called "One More One Less" to our Math centers. This game helps us practice the concepts of adding and taking away, as well as subitizing!

Here is a video to practice subitizing again!

Stay tuned for our community building project we will be starting this week..
