Good afternoon,

This week, we have started looking at the concept of subitizing. To subitize means to identify the number of things in a set simply by quickly looking at them - not counting them one by one. In Kindergarten, we will learn how to subitize up to 5!

You can practice subitizing at home with your child by watching this video and saying the number of the set!

Another great way to practice subitizing at home is to use a die and roll it. Being able to recognize the number of dots on the dice without counting is how we can become a master at subitizing!

Here is a digital dice roller if you do not have any at home: Click here for a digital dice roller!

An in class example of how I implemented rolling a die is having the students build with Lego. They roll the die to figure out how many pieces of Lego they get to add to their structure!

We also learned about the letter Y! Here is a practice worksheet to do at home:

Have a wonderful evening!
