WELCOME TO KINDERGARTEN!
Hello my kindergarten friends. My name is Ms. McCowan! In the picture below I am snuggling with my pet Tundra. I am looking forward to meeting you this week in your Kindergarten staggered entry group. The first day of school is such an important day. We know you are equal parts EXCITED and nerVouS! First times are always like that but they are soooooooo worth it. We are going to have ooooooodddles of fun learning together. We can't wait to meet you!
Here are a few suggestions to help make back-to-school go smoothly:
- Begin a good sleep schedule before the first day of school. Eat a good breakfast.
- Practice hand washing and hand sanitizing at home. Students may bring a small personal hand sanitizer bottle for their desk. Please be sure to label it with your child’s name. Please avoid products with strong scents. We also have sanitizer here.
- If your child is able to wear a mask, practice wearing it, storing it, and taking it on and off safely (i.e. Using hand sanitizer, putting it in a clean place when not wearing it)
- Bring a backpack that can hold as much of your child’s outdoor clothing as possible, and practice packing and unpacking the bag. Coat hook access will be limited.
- For days with good weather, wear shoes that can remain on all day, and are good for physical activity (runners vs dress shoes).
- There will be more learning outside this fall, so please bring hats and consider putting on sunscreen at home before school.
- Try to bring snacks that are healthy, easy to open, and can be eaten in a short time. Remind your child, that at school, we do not share food.
- Please do not send toys, athletic equipment, or extra school supplies from home. We have individual, cleanable pencil boxes for each student with all of the supplies they need.
- We suggest bringing a water bottle that is full of water from home. Please make sure it is sealed tightly! Freezing it can help prevent spills in the backpack. Practice using it at home first.
- If your child takes the bus, please make sure they know the bus and stop. You might write this information on a card and keep it in the backpack.
Thank you, for all your support! We know things will look different at school this year. At Cambrian Heights, we know how important it will be to communicate with each other so that we can work together for a successful school re-entry! Please reach out if you have any questions at all.
Can't wait to meet you all!
Ms. McCowan
